Thought I would post a few of the vintage clothes I got at an estate sale last week that I'll be working on and listing in the next 2 weeks.
It was a great sale, tons of vintage in a house that generations had lived in (or had moved all of the stuff from one place to the other) and never threw things away.

Back to Vintage...Ceil and a Wedding

50's "Sabrina Look" Wedding Dress



I never use live models so it was interesting to see these dresses on a real body. The wedding dress would not go on any of my mannequins, but did fit my friend like a glove.
What was really amazing was how sexy she looked in the Ceil.
She is very thin and, well, not that well endowed, but the dress made her look like she had an hourglass figure.
It is a testament to what a well designed dress can do for you.

Vintage Purses...Christmas Colors

These are 2 of my favorite vintage purses of the whole calender.
The red is probably 40's with a Lucite clasp while the green one is 1930's made of a early vinyl that replicates alligator skin. If you have ever had one of these early vinyl bags you know how soft they are compared to more modern vinyl.

This late 30's or 40's vinyl handbag is on Damn Good Vintage, great color, soft and the shape is slick.

Making the Sasauge

Normally we vintage clothing sellers prefer the buyers to think that awesome vintage clothes are delivered each night by Fairies who look like Bettie Page and dress from the pages of the 1956 Fredrick's of Hollywood catalog.
Sadly, this is not the case.
Sure, some days you go on a call and in a humidity controlled, cedar lined closet you are presented with a nice assortment of vintage dresses with nary a flaw.
These days are few and far between.
Most days are like this.

So that is the set up.
Lilli Diamond set, red dye stain, never gonna come out.

I let it sit there for 3 months while I thought about it, finally I decided I had nothing to loose and grabbed my handy spray bottle, filled it with Biz and water and sprayed the spots over and over again for about 4 days.
I then filled my tub with water and Biz and in went the dress and coat.
And they sat and sat and sat in in the tub for 2 days.
When I finally pulled them out there was just a wee bit of pinkish tan shadow where the red would be.
So this weekend I repeated the process with the spraying of the Biz and there is no indication there was ever a dye transfer mark at all on either garment.
Let this be a lesson.
Dye transfer will release from rayon at least, I have yet to get it out of nylon.


So it is up on the site, waiting for the right buyer.

Vintage Sportswear Workshop

Lizzie Bramlett of fuzzylizzie Vintage Clothing will be doing a sportswear workshop on The Vintage Fashion Guild's public forum this week, June 23-25th.

June 23-25: American Sportswear

Monday, June 23: The workshop will start with a brief historical overview and go on to discuss bathing suits.

Tuesday, June 24: Lizzie will explain how sportswear evolved in private situations, such as women's colleges and summer camps.

Wednesday, June 25: Day three will be devoted to active sportswear (tennis, bicycling, golf, hiking, skiing) and how active sportswear spilled over into the everyday lives of women. Sportswear greats, such as Claire McCardell, Carolyn Schurner and Tom Brigance, will be mentioned.

Make time to spend sometime reading and taking part in this virtual workshop.

House Call O' Rama

Went to a "house call" with a good friend.
It was awesome!
Lately all of the house calls for vintage 40's and 50's were actually full of late 80's and 90's clothing. I've seen some really GREAT Alfred Dunner let me tell you.
~sigh~
Not this time.
30's bias cut nightgowns and Mexican painted circle skirts and cute 50's sundresses.
The house call was my friends (it amazes me how generous she is and we have such a good time when we go hunting vintage, I can count on one hand the other vintage sellers that I think would be so kind to a competitor) so I normally pick a few things out right away and then wait till she is done picking to get anything else.
Of course you know inside I am thinking "nononono don't pick that, yessssss pass it by, good girl, move on now, nothing left to see here......leave it for me" because in the end I'm such a selfish bitch.

This time I got these saucy green suede 1940's wedge peep toe shoes. I love the little gold trim and the leaf accent on the toe box.

Fucking hot, that's what they are.
