New Patterns at Sew-Retro Vintage Patterns

Still in the middle of updating the websites, but thought I would show you some of the new patterns I've listed in the last week.

This is a great pattern.
Totally a rip-off of the Mondrian Op-Art look YSL created from Simplicity.

And this Adorable 50's dress pattern.

I love the collar with the pull-though bow.

 Sexy 50's skirt with pleats.
There are arrows at the top pf those pleats.

 1940's Anne Adams dress pattern with a clever asymmetrical opening.

 I LOVE these two 1950's cover-up/day dresses with their huge pockets and adorable appliques.

Vintage Pattern 1940

Vintage Simplicity dress pattern from 1940.
I was watching Mildred Pierce ( the Joan Crawford movie, not the dire HBO remake) when listing this and the style seem to fit for the title character. Attractive, but no nonsense.

Watch List: Vintage Patterns

This week I decided to watch patterns that have something surprising about them.
The first one, McCall's 3528 is quite adorable and it has directions for making the matching parasol. How wonderful!


This second pattern is dated wrong by the seller, it is actually 1937 or 39, and a great halter bathing suit/playsuit, but do you see that cape? (and can I just say, who does not want a cape to wear with their swimming suit?) You can wear as is, OR, wait for it....a skirt! Clever.

Vogue 1556: A marvelous this-moment dress, very young....with high yoke, hem band and sleeve cuffs in perfectly proportioned contrast.


Vogue 1557: The geometrics of Mondrian. Young, bold proportions of black and white-rectangle of color-hemlines ruled-this is the terse, crisp look of young dressing.

This Vogue Special Design pattern, the side treatment is scrumptious.

Some of them are sultry and maybe a little Boho – she lived in a really cool house tucked away on a side street in town – she has recently passed away at the age of 92. Be sure to check all of the patterns out – there are a hundred or so of them and I think I’ll list them 25 or so at a time – to help keep myself straight. They are all 30’s – 40’s – 50’s – mostly Vogue and Vogue Special Designs – with some Butterick and Simplicity. "

Vintage McCall's Style News, May 1953 #1

New vintage pattern book, McCall's May, 1953.
My plan is to scan the pattern books, catalogs and flyers that I have collected in the next couple of months. Part of the reason to do this is to have a way to archive these in case they get left laying around and, let's say a cat, not naming any names here (Cheif) decides to lounge around on the fragile paper, putting his their claws into said pattern book periodically.
Bad kitty.
