Really it is. It calls to me....wants all my money ...
Ang, over at Dorothea's Closetturned me ontoSpa Goddess on Etsy. I'm a total sucker for handmade beauty products. I bought this bunch o' samples and feel in love with this and this and this. I love the smell of lavender, I love the way the scrub and spray makes my skin feel. And my skin does look much, much better. Of course it did not stop there. I also got some yummy lip balm, Pink Lemonade and Dreamsicle, from You Stink Soap. The seller sent along a sample of Birthday Cake soap. Best.Smell.Evah!
Last but not least I got this great little eyeglass case from Wrightsan.
It is awesome, I loose my keys all the time. I love slipping my cell phone, credit card and driver's license into this puppy and leave the big purse behind. Great barkcloth fabric.
Today I bought this bar shampoo from Dress Green. I'll let you know what I think once I've used it a few times.
I normally do not talk much about my faith here, but the other night I was flipping though the channels on the radio and stop at a Christian music station, no not because the music sucked, but instead I heard the sound of a long lost friend of my soul.
Rich Mullins was the real deal. A musician, writer and singer who was also a Christian and sang about faith so was relegated to the moniker of CM artist. But when I say he was the real deal, I don't mean his music, I mean the way he lived his life as a Christian. He lived in a hogan on an Indian reservation in New Mexico where he taught music to children. The money he made from his tours and records were given to his church. They paid him a small salary (the average of the annual salary of a working person in this country) and the rest went to charities. At the time of his death he was meeting with a Priest and getting ready to join The Church which was about the time I began coming back to The Church* Even with that it was really more about his general addittude for life that struck me. He admitted he was not perfect, cussed some, might have had a beer off and on (which CM artist did not do) and just wanted to live a mericiful life from what I could tell:
Jesus said whatever you do to the least of these my brothers you’ve done it to me. And this is what I’ve come to think. That if I want to identify fully with Jesus Christ, who I claim to be my savior and Lord, the best way that I can do that is to identify with the poor. This I know will go against the teachings of all the popular evangelical preachers. But they’re just wrong. They’re not bad, they’re just wrong. Christianity is not about building an absolutely secure little niche in the world where you can live with your perfect little wife and your perfect little children in a beautiful little house where you have no gays or minority groups anywhere near you. Christianity is about learning to love like Jesus loved and Jesus loved the poor and Jesus loved the broken.
Rich died in 1997 in a senseless car accident. It still hurts my heart that he is gone. I never "knew" him, but he did touch me and so I guess that counts for something.
Now a long bunch of youtube videos, except I can't find any to my more favorite songs. Oh, well. If you are really interested search for "Rich Mullins Homeless Man" on youtube and watch the wonderful documentary of his life.
"God is right and the rest of us are just guessing..."
I went on the BEST HOUSE CALL EVER yesterday. Went with a friend who is great, the sisters dealing with their Mother and Aunt's houses (side by side with a pool and pool/party house in between) were also a hoot. I got some wonderful vintage dresses, purses and hats for Damn Good Vintage, but the best part was all the wonderful retro stuff I got for myself. Here are some pictures of my haul.
Kim, over at The Girl Can't Help It once again has a killer post. This time we are talking reality shows and yes, I also admit that Rock of Love is like crack.
Rock Of Love is my crack and Daisy you are one crazy ass loon. Bret Michaels, even though your show makes me want to take a shot of penicillin and a hot shower, why must you play with my emotions?
Scary, "why do I watch this", crack.... Of course, I keep hoping that Brent's hat and wig will get pulled off during some booze infused chick fight. You never know.
My friend Ang thought I needed to take a look at the cards over on Roger That! Laboriously Handmade Cards. How did she know (except she knows my sense of humor and has spent many hours laughing at the LOLcats with me over on icanhascheeseburger whilst talkin' on the phone) I would find them so LOLROTFLOMG!!!1111!!!!!! and all that. She was right. I dig 'em. Seriously, they are right up my alley with cards like "Happy Holidays from ASSHOLEVILLE!" and "Is Your Best Friend a Psycho?" and a ton of cards with MCM furniture* on them. There are boobie! cards, and glam vintage gal cards and bizzare "what the hell does this mean" cards and oh, yes Jesus cards. And most of them have little gems written next to them, like this:
Here’s where reading all these damn card descriptions actually pays off. The police use the following test on suspects to see if they’re dealing with a psychopath. It’s a REAL TEST. REALLY.
Call your best friend and casually tell it the following anecdote:
Maggie is at her mother's funeral. She meets George. They go out a few times, and she falls madly in love with him, but George seems indifferent and finally stops returning her calls. Maggie kills her sister.
Now here's the test: ask your potentially psycho best friend, "Why did Maggie kill her sister?"
If your friend retorts, "Well, OBVIOUSLY because she wants to see George again," then your best friend is, indeed, a psycho.
See. Jesus, that is brilliant!
So I ordered a set of "Glam" cards for a "Secret Santa" gift and also picked up some of the Xmas cards to give to my bitches (they know who they are). I'll let ya know what I think when they get here, but I'm pretty sure that the Roger That! folks will be raking in more of my money in the near future.
*A category that has a long paragrah explaining just "why" there are so damn many furniture cards. Who cares? Cards with Danish Modern Furniture on them are made of awesome in my book.
