Cake or Pie

Today Senator Obama bought cake, Pound Cake, for some folks in a diner.

Kinda cool.
I love pound cake.
Paid for it with his own money, no campaign staffer running behind him to deal with that and on a bill of $26 he left a $10 in the tip cup.
I think you can tell a whole lot about a person by how they tip...or don't.

Of course it also got me thinking what is more elitist?
Pie or cake.
Will Chris Matthews deride his decision to treat those people to cake rather then pie?
Josh would say pie, but he thinks everything is better with pie.
I think Pound Cake is pretty working class.
What about you?

File Under "Growing Up"

Today my son, who is all of 16, started his first job.
Pushing carts.
He almost got run over by an old lady and a customer pushed a cart at him and hit his knee, got sunburned, but all in all I think it was a good day.
Quite a step for him.
He has always had issues (debilitating at times) with new experiences, so even the fact that he was able to go though the interview process with people he did not know in an unknown environment is a huge, HUGE step for him.
I'm so proud and sad at the same time.
Like they say they do grow up way too fast.

Shame Cave

Via Feministing....

I just about peed my pants when I watched the Daily Show last night.
God Stick and Shame Cave.

Seriously though, everyone knows that abstinence only does not work.
Why do the fundis and the Bush administration continue to force this on school districts?
But more then that why do the parents of teens (that silent majority who are not fundis)
not storm their school boards and demand that their kids get a real sex education program that
incorporates the facts and abstinence?
If Josh went to school i would be all over this.
As it is my kid knows all about sex and condoms and AIDS and STDs and babies i won't be taking care of or supporting and why abstinence is good until you are an adult.
What I have not done is lied and talked about "dirty toothbrush" or that sex is not nice.

BTW, big news for The Boy. Not only has he gotten his learner's permit he also got a job and went to pee in a cup today to prove he is not smokin' the weed......as if that should keep one from being a cart pusher.

The Problem with Pets

The problem is you fall in love with them and they just
don't stay with you long enough.
Dixie passed away this morning.
It was not unexpected and it was quiet and painless.
Still.

She was a good dog.

Hmmmmmm

Which is creepier?
This:
Or this?

My vote is for number 2.

BTW, I keep reading that she is TOPLESS and in a sheet.
Seriously?
We are all assuming that she is nakie under that "sheet"...dirty, dirty minds.
I see no boobs and the "sheet" is a Duchess Satin Stole.......Miley herself has shown more of her boobs on MySpace.

BTW, ole mullet head is still kinda hot in a white trashy way.

What I Woke Up To

A blanket tent, or you could say "boy fort" in my living room.
Now this would not have been that odd a few years ago, but Josh is
now 16. He even has his learner's permit. But last night he was
so bored after I went to bed that he built a tent AND he was
sleeping in it with the cats when I got up today.
It's actually pretty sweet and makes me nostalgic for that little boy.

Idol

I'll admit right here and now that I do not watch American Idol.
Amazing, isn't it?
But if someone points me in the direction of a contestant they like I normally take a look.
David Cook.
Signing "Music of the Night".
While I may not dig Idol, I am a an easy mark for an Andrew Lloyd Webber tune.
The guy is pretty brilliant.....

eVintage Blog Tag, Maxed Out!

So. Ready for the maxi?

No, no I'm not.

MAXI OR PATIO DRESS, AND WHY?
Maxi, since for me "Patio Dress" is something different.

FAVORITE MAXI DRESS IN YOUR INVENTORY?
I don't have any really, I guess you might call this Logan a Maxi, but I think of it more as an evening dress.

AS A TREND, WILL IT BE A HIT OR A MISS?
Well as a trend I think it might be a mild hit, but most women are just not going to go back to long skirts. We have been conditioned for so long to see that length as a formal option only.

Of course I saw some floral halter Maxis at WaMart the other day so you really never know.

DO YOU WEAR MAXI DRESSES OR SKIRTS?
Nope, I can't even stand long nightgowns.

PROS AND CONS?
They can be very pretty and feminine and just another option for women with really thick calves to hide 'em. Cons? They can be just kitschy if not done right...now I like kitsch, but not 70's kitsch.

And what if the trend really took off and the next thing you know we are all wearing long dresses with fraking panniers? Oh hell no!

Let's see, I'm tagging Kitsch-y-Cool next.

More Spring

Lots of flowers poking out, though it is a bit cool and cloudy today.
More lillacs, Bleeding Heart, Ajuga Blooms, and Blueberry.
We will have a ton of blueberries this year.

That's Nico.
She has these spots in the driveway that have been rubbed down to almost sand and Nico will lay in these spot and just roll around.
Happy Kitty.

Matt and Trey

How much do I love you guys?

The new season of South Park has been amazing.

I Fucking Hate the USPS

Dude, I am SO fucking pissed.
I hate the US Post Office.
I hate them.
I hate their lousy service.
I hate EXPRESS that is not.
I hate that I went out to mail a 1940's wedding dress on Thursday during a fucking tornado warning (sirens going off and everything...ok, I did have other things to do and I did check the radar before leaving, but STILL I drove out whilst the sirens were wailing with my hysterical teen telling me I was a horrible mother to take him out in that weather....as if I would actually put him in danger. Jesus, what kind of mother does he think I am?) to a sweet customer who is getting married next Thursday.
I wanted
to make sure I got to the PO before the cut off time so said customer would get the dress today (Friday) before 12 noon.
I hate that even though there really was NO tornado (or anywhere in Little Rock) my fucking post office was unable to get my EXPRESS package across town (a 30 min drive max) to the express processing center (even though I got MY package to MY post office 4 hours before the cut off time) in time for it to even make it out of Arkansas last night.
Seriously?
oy, and vey. tm.copyright kim

No dress for that wonderful customer, who is being sweet as can be to me, today.
She will get it tomorrow, but still, my bitter little heart is overflowing with bitter, bitter hate right now.
and feeling VERY stabby.

So no more EXPRESS for me.
Only UPS or FEDEX for overnight stuff.

I'm going to need a slew of LOLcats to deal with this.

Nope, still bitter.
