I've been tagged by Angie over at Real Vintage for the weekly eVintage Blog Tag!

This fun house dress makes me think of NECO Wafers:

3) Sweet tooth? What’s your favorite candy?

Orange Slices

4)Ice cream…..chocolate or strawberry, and why?

Chocolate, cause its chocolate....

5) “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, classic film or Johnny Depp re-make….and why?

Depp, creepy wins every time.

6)Is your personal style sweet or salty?

Salty

Explain!

Bugger Off!

It's Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage's turn!

Idol

I'll admit right here and now that I do not watch American Idol.
Amazing, isn't it?
But if someone points me in the direction of a contestant they like I normally take a look.
David Cook.
Signing "Music of the Night".
While I may not dig Idol, I am a an easy mark for an Andrew Lloyd Webber tune.
The guy is pretty brilliant.....

How can I not LOL?

Kim, over at The Girl Can't Help It is fucking hilarious.
Not just tee hee funny, but spitting out of the nose Muhwahahahahaha, gasp, sigh kinda funny.

Case in point her post on the places she wants to visit.

Giant Things. World's largest badger in Wisconsin. That's gross, crawling out of the ground, Night of the Living Dead style...in Kimspeak that means freaking AWESOME.

She is right.
Night of The Living Dead kind of awesome.
and what would possess someone to make this? Why scare the children?

Here are a few new LOLcats.
Enjoy.

eVintage Blog Tag, Maxed Out!

So. Ready for the maxi?

No, no I'm not.

MAXI OR PATIO DRESS, AND WHY?
Maxi, since for me "Patio Dress" is something different.

FAVORITE MAXI DRESS IN YOUR INVENTORY?
I don't have any really, I guess you might call this Logan a Maxi, but I think of it more as an evening dress.

AS A TREND, WILL IT BE A HIT OR A MISS?
Well as a trend I think it might be a mild hit, but most women are just not going to go back to long skirts. We have been conditioned for so long to see that length as a formal option only.

Of course I saw some floral halter Maxis at WaMart the other day so you really never know.

DO YOU WEAR MAXI DRESSES OR SKIRTS?
Nope, I can't even stand long nightgowns.

PROS AND CONS?
They can be very pretty and feminine and just another option for women with really thick calves to hide 'em. Cons? They can be just kitschy if not done right...now I like kitsch, but not 70's kitsch.

And what if the trend really took off and the next thing you know we are all wearing long dresses with fraking panniers? Oh hell no!

Let's see, I'm tagging Kitsch-y-Cool next.

On Being a Fatty

What has me all worked up this AM? Well, this "commentary" in the Gaurdian via Femministing

Best comment?
"You've left out redheads, left-handed people and people with a squint. Are you going to let them get away with it?"

More Spring

Lots of flowers poking out, though it is a bit cool and cloudy today.
More lillacs, Bleeding Heart, Ajuga Blooms, and Blueberry.
We will have a ton of blueberries this year.

That's Nico.
She has these spots in the driveway that have been rubbed down to almost sand and Nico will lay in these spot and just roll around.
Happy Kitty.

Matt and Trey

How much do I love you guys?

The new season of South Park has been amazing.

I Fucking Hate the USPS

Dude, I am SO fucking pissed.
I hate the US Post Office.
I hate them.
I hate their lousy service.
I hate EXPRESS that is not.
I hate that I went out to mail a 1940's wedding dress on Thursday during a fucking tornado warning (sirens going off and everything...ok, I did have other things to do and I did check the radar before leaving, but STILL I drove out whilst the sirens were wailing with my hysterical teen telling me I was a horrible mother to take him out in that weather....as if I would actually put him in danger. Jesus, what kind of mother does he think I am?) to a sweet customer who is getting married next Thursday.
I wanted
to make sure I got to the PO before the cut off time so said customer would get the dress today (Friday) before 12 noon.
I hate that even though there really was NO tornado (or anywhere in Little Rock) my fucking post office was unable to get my EXPRESS package across town (a 30 min drive max) to the express processing center (even though I got MY package to MY post office 4 hours before the cut off time) in time for it to even make it out of Arkansas last night.
Seriously?
oy, and vey. tm.copyright kim

No dress for that wonderful customer, who is being sweet as can be to me, today.
She will get it tomorrow, but still, my bitter little heart is overflowing with bitter, bitter hate right now.
and feeling VERY stabby.

So no more EXPRESS for me.
Only UPS or FEDEX for overnight stuff.

I'm going to need a slew of LOLcats to deal with this.

Nope, still bitter.

Vinatge Blog Tag

This week the blog tag from eVintage Society is the 60's and, as she does each week, Ang over at RealVintage tagged me. (and because I suck that way I am just now getting around to it)

Are you a MAD MEN kinda gal (ritzy cocktail dresses, wiggle silhouette, draped and ruched silk chiffon, pointy toe stilettos, a cigarette and martini) or a MOD dolly (sleek lines, go go boots, oversize sunglasses, pilgrim buckle square toe shoes, paper dresses, micro mini skirts, patterened tights, white lipstick and fake lashes)? Do tell.

MOD OR MAD MEN?
I love me some Mad Men though I can never decide if I like Joanie or Betty's style better.

FAVE PIECE IN YOUR INVENTORY FITTING THE BILL?

This late 50's or very early 60's cocktail dress would be just the thing for that hot number Joanie to wear. With or without it's mink trimmed bolero.

ICONIC EARLY 60s STARLET?
Audrey Hepburn

LATE 60’s?
Jane Fonda (cause at that point she was still a "starlet".

SINATRA OR THE SWINGIN’ 60s SCENE?
Old Blue Eyes!

I'm tagging Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage next!

Like Oprah in a Way....

I love Dress a Day.
Erin is a wonderful writer and we share the same brain when it comes to novelty prints and dress designs.
Erin also commands a vast army of vintage dress/pattern sewing readers/minions who upon her word will swoop down on your website and buy your stuff.
Today it was my turn.
She posted about this awesome pattern she bought, mentioned my birthday was last week, pointed out a few patterns and the flurry of sales began.
Not complaining.
I love to see my vintage patterns go to new homes.

I'm just saying she is like The Oprah with her awesome selling power.
and minions.
and I think she is nicer then Oprah....I really don't like The Oprah.

I wonder if readers/minions get hats or t-shirts?

Seriously?

Wut?*

Buddy Christ says:
"Get out of my belief system, you are makin' me look stupid."...and making more Atheists.

I am amazed at the fear some folks have of the scary Atheists out there.
Hell, some of my favorite "in real life" friends are Atheists and I can attest that they do not have horns nor has knowing them harmed my child in any way.
Not only do I no longer care if someone is religious or not I'm beginning to think, after 8 years of "God's Man" in the White House, that we might do better with an Atheist or Agnostic President.

*Rep. Monique Davis to atheist Rob Sherman: `It’s dangerous for our children to even know that your philosophy exists!'
Seriously, that's what she said (and for heaven's sake the woman is a Dem) and more. The link above takes you to the Chicago Tribune Blog that has a audio link to the whole shameful exchange.....and I only thought The South had idjets for state reps.

What's For Dinner This Week

This week it will be:

Sunday: Smothered Chicken
Monday: Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwiches
Tuesday: Seared Steak with Balsamic Vinegar Sauce
Wed: Burritos
Thursday: Pork Cutlets & Creamed Spinach
Friday: Fish and Chips (I'm trying real Fish and Chips for the first time with my new deep fryer so I'll have to give a report next weekend.)

Will post a picture of the Smothered Chicken later if all goes well. It is also a new recipe I got from Sandra Lee's Semi Home Made Show. I love that show. I hate the word tablescape, but I love the fact that each meal has a cocktail with it. Plus that is the way I have always cooked. Some of it home made, but adding in pre-prepared and packaged items to speed things up.

Update:
Update:
OMG!!!!
That was the most delicious chicken I have EVER had.
Yummy, yummy, yummy...just a bit hard to eat with your hands.

Spring

Took some pictures today of the lilacs, dogwood, and vinca that is blooming in the yard and woods right now.

Vintage Purses

More scans of my favorite vintage purses from my purse calender.

Wooden box bag, 50's?

Way cool.

This is so delicate and pretty.
Mesh pouch with tassels and appliqued flowers, Greece, mid-19th century.

Awesome vintage 20's Deco bag.
Metallic geometric pochette, France, c. 1925

And this is my favorite of all.
Printed fabric purse with gathered side pockets, 1940's.

Enjoy!

If Only I Had Known

Seems that teens in Florida who are the beneficiaries of the states awesome abstinence only sex ed program think that smoking pot can keep one from getting pregnant.

If only I had known, all those years of rubbers and the pill, all a waste when you realize that I could have smoked reefer instead.

Some also believe that drinking a cap full of bleach (seriously? I would think shooting up your vag would work better....NOT) will take care of the HIV and a shot of Mountain Dew (cause we know it will kill anything) can also keep you from getting preggers.

Thank goodness the FL. state leg has used the studies information to pass a more comprehensive sex ed program.

I wonder if they also read the study that found out that tons of girls are having ass sex with their boyfriends because technically it means they are still virgins (and didn't mean their boyfriend was gay) while not breaking that "saving it for marriage" pledge they took in church to make their parents happy.
(just in case here is a site where you can get your own "purity ring".....awesome.)

You Can't Save Them All, Part 2

UPDATE: Go Here!

As I have said before one of the hardest parts of selling and collecting vintage clothing is knowing that there are just some garments that cannot be saved. This vintage 50's Lilli Diamond wiggle dress and swing coat is one such item.

How fabulous is this?

I bought this knowing I cannot save it. There is a red dye transfer stain on both the dress and swing coat. So sad.

I'll be keeping this for my own personal collection of fab but flawed vintage designer garments.

Top Chef

Tonight on Top Chef the teams had to create a course based on their favorite movies.
OMG, I was screaming The Thin Man, The Thin Man.
No one choose it of course, what a great course you could make based on all the liquor.
There is a liquor course in a six course meal, right?

If not there should be.

But really you could make some kind of awesome sauce with gin (or drink lots of gin and get sauced) and serve it with a dry martini.
Or two.

Just a reminder why The Thin Man (besides all of the fabulous vintage 30's and 40's clothes Myrna Loy wears) is awesome:

and yes, I want that cute Australian or Stephanie to win.

VLV Blog Tag

It is Wed. and besides being my 45th (Jesus, can you believe it?) birthday, it is also time for Blog Tag with eVintage Society. This week we are doing the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly look.

FAVORITE ROCKABILLY LOOK PIECE IN YOUR INVENTORY?
This totally hot Shannon Rodgers sun dress.

DO YOU WEAR THE ROCKABILLY LOOK AT ALL?
In my imagination I am.....

CRUCIAL ROCKABILLY VINTAGE ACCESSORY FOR GIRLS?
A pair of rockin' Springolators.

PERSONAL STYLE. SANDY OR RIZZO?
Rizzo baby, Sandy was a wuss.

I wish I had been that hot in high school......

AGE OLD QUESTION….ELVIS OR THE BEATLES?
Elvis, was there ever a doubt?

I'm tagging Kitsch-y-Cool Vintage next!
