Well I finally got that vintage Lilli Ann coat back
from the dry cleaners.
Turned out very nice.
As I set down to list I began to measure.

It has almost a 50 bust!
So ladies I have listed a plus size vintage Lilli Ann mohair
coat. The color is a pretty salmon pink.
Snazzy.

This great purse has been on my watch list for a bit now.
It is in amishtaxi's ebay store; affaire d'amour vintage.
I am sad to say that cash has been tight here at Goddess Central so I just get to look and sigh.

It is just a wonderful straw purse with a lucite handle
and accents.

Big Hair and Fanny Packs

According to New York Magazine three is a trend and 2 of the "new" trends at Fashion Week are big hair and fanny packs.
Just like New Yorkers to think Big Hair and Fanny Packs ever went "out".
Here in my part of the South any chi-chi luncheon is full of these scary skinny wives of rich men with their skelator bodies and huge bobble heads.

The look to the left, in particular, is quite familiar.
Add a great big bow in back and it would look like any number of dress wearing, homeschooling, fundi gals I see everyday.



And though the fanny packs shown are cute, they are still fanny packs.
That is a look that will, once again, be abused by the same large size women who decided it was ok to wear hip hugger jeans with belly baring shirts to WalMart.

Think of the children folks.

Thank God the Go Fug Yourself gals are also in New York this week discussing the antics of Paris, Demi and the like.
On a bright note I love the Spring 2007 collection from Tuleh which is
very 40's vintage looking, wonderful prints, lady-like without being boring.

Normally I am watching vintage clothes or pattern lots on eBay.
Not right now.
All I want is this book from mybestbooks:

The FUNDAMENTALS OF APPAREL DESIGN by Pepin Harmony.
How could I not?
Look at the pictures. Tons and tons of lovely, snazzy, chic 1940's clothing!
I am drooling and seriously thinking about NOT paying a bill so I can have THIS BOOK!
Go take a look, the seller has done a fantastic job with the listing including a large
amount of pictures and chapter information. You might also want to check out the sellers
other items. She has a nice number of vintage fashion books listed this week.
~sigh~

I have never felt this way about a book before, well except for the new hardback reissues of
Sandman that Neil Gaiman will have out soon.
I would kill for one of those.

How do I love Thee?

Yummy Vintage Vogue Patterns.
I try not to be a snob, but I do have a real preference for Vogue Couturier Design
Patterns over any others.
You can have a dress that seems chic, but nothing special until you look at the details.
Each of the designs below have great stand-up collars, very new look and nice skirts.
But the details of each skirt! The first has a nice flare skirt with deep forward pleats
at each of the side seams. The second looks like a slim, wiggle skirt with bucket pockets.
The surprise is this back flare from deep pleats on each side of a wide back panel.
Just wonderful.

How cool is this?
I sold these 2 dresses sometime last year to Ancient Chineze Secret.
They were just wonderful dresses.
The gray is an almost sharkskin gabardine, wiggle perfect with this
bust defining bow on the bodice.
So Hot.

(Which is amazing for me to say since I normally do not like models for vintage clothes.)

Vintage Sewing Patterns

I love to sew.
I hate to sew.
Actually I love patterns.
Sewing is a chore.
I'm cool if there is no collar or inset sleeves, I really suck at those.

Patterns are about what could be.
Sewing is the here and now and the thread that has gotten all tangled
with the bobbin again.
Damn Bobbin.

All that being said the advent of the pre-made sewing patterns ensured that any talented home seamstress could dress like a Duchess if she had the time and fabric to do so.

I have a Pictorial Review Pattern on ebay right now.
It is the oldest pattern I have ever had. I've dated to about 1910-1917.
Nice day dress.

I am in love with this Vogue Couturier Design pattern.
I love the structural back hip draping.
So chic.
Yes it would look fab in black rayon crepe....

The other fucktard of the week is Michael Noer on Forbes website and his little article: Don't Marry Career Women, there is a chance your house will be dirty....a counter-point is provided to his point of view; Don't Marry A Lazy Man.

The best part of this?
Forbes had originally posted Noer's piece of offal alone. Then they bahleeted it after comments got hot and heavy (and it was begining to make its way around the internet, including journalfen for the wanky comments) then Forbes re-posted it with the counter-point.
Best comment left for Mr. Noer?

Is This Becoming an Obsession?

Maybe I need to tile this blog "little Black 40's dress" since that seems to be all I am interested in lately.
Like this dress.
It is a simple, iconic shape of the 40's.
Black rayon, hugs the figure, but the beading (which I am always amazed when work like this has survived intact considering what I run across everyday and do not buy due to various age issues.) takes it from an everyday look to something The Black Dahlia would have worn.
Now there is another obsession; maybe because it involves "old Hollywood" and makes a great subject for a Noir film. The victim was lovely and her murder was gruesome. She (and that is her to the left, Elizabeth Short) is rumored to have worn black most of the time hence we are back to the 40's black rayon dresses that I seem to love.
If I lived another life and was another size I would wear these dresses with great 40's platforms and seamed stockings all the time.


All this brings me to the two movies I am looking forward to.
The Black Dahlia and Hollywood Land.
Old Hollywood and murder make the best movies in my book and the costumes will be right up my alley.
I can't wait.

I have a teen who has just howled whilst rolling on the floor while
watching this absurdity on tv.

Thanks to God that ole' K-Fed has Brittany's millions to live off of or that
boy would starve to death.

Just a quick pic of the best of this weekend's finds.
It includes:

• Lots o' hats

• A double breasted, black Persian lamb pea coat that has a lovely pink rose lining. The set included a black lamb purse muff and a scarf/twisted turban hat that matches the lining of the coat.

• A FAB salmon pink LILLI ANN mohair swing coat!!!

• And a lovely 70's faux fur Russian Princess walking coat.

Not much gets me to Conway except my friend

Since I was talking about 40's vintage in my last post I thought
this snazzy dress from Couture Allure on ebay would be a
great addition to my watch list.
Perfect Noir style with a modified peplum AND a side hip swag.
What makes this dress even more special?

a glorified house dress?

I have this wonderful 40's vintage swing dress
in my store, Damn Good Vintage, on Mainstreet Vintage.
Great construction, nice slubbed rayon with
good heft to it. I love the big collar and and
flared A-line skirt. It may not be 40's Noir style,
but still a very wearable vintage dress.


One the other hand here is a McCall pattern recently listed at Sew-Reto Vintage Patterns.
Why do I love this pattern?
The nipped waist, smooth peplum and the smart pleated skirt. I've got a thing for 3/4 length sleeves.
Dig the hats too.

Over on the Arkansas Times Blog they posted a bit of trivia. We have been in Iraq longer then we were in WWll. I could go on a rant to express my disgust with this war and distrust of the current administration, but instead it would be easier to just post the comment of one Joel here:

Never has the Law of Unintended Consequences been so terribly proven as it has in this conflict. The dream of a Pax Americana has turned into a nightmare that is being inflicted upon many cultures and may eventually threaten all of civilization.
And the reason for it all: hubris. Pride, patriotism, and power mixed in a deadly cocktail which poisons the better natures of our souls.
The enemy is demonized so that we can justify releasing our own demons upon them. Both sides are committed to the wicked gods of war as their only recourse.
I hope we find some way to stop this descent into a culture of carnage. Our children and our children's children deserve better.

Mommy wars, anyone?

Sheesh, when will we stop eating our own? Why can't we just let other Mom's live their own lives? Why is it anyone's fucking business if a mom chooses to put her kid in daycare or not?
This is an older post from Reb on Home-Schooled by a Cackling Jackal. She had recently posted that her little one would be going to day care ~gasp~ two days a week so she could get some WORK DONE! The comments are not all positive.
That is too bad.
I see part time daycare as a win-win situation in many cases. Moms, especially stay-at-home moms who are also working from home, can really use a day or two ALONE.
I have a teen, that I homeschool, and I promise you I dearly love those days when I get a call from a friend asking can The Boy come hang out with Alex for a few days?
Hello? I've probably loaded him the van before she got all the words out of her mouth.
Look, no matter what we do, we are all gonna screw up our kids in one way or another.
Stay at home vs. not stay at home, homeschool vs. public vs. private school, no matter what if mom is driven insane then the kids are fucked.
Think of the children. Please.
Don't drive yourself batshit crazy trying to be everything to everyone and don't watch Dr. Phil....he makes baby Jesus cry.
And stop worrying about how other moms are raising their own kids...it really is none of your damn business.

I really love this Vogue Special Design pattern that I just listed in my eBay store. Very smart and perfect for the summer. A versitle dress that you can dress up or down with your fabric choices and how great is that neckline?

I have an obsession for vintage shoes, so shoe-incons.com is almost like porn.
What makes the site even better are the folks behind it.
Last week I was still feeling just a bit iffy about those Charles Jourdans below so I sent an email to the folks at Shoe-icons (which is THE SPOT on the web to drool over the best vintage shoes) and they were kind enough to validate my circa 1960's date and to point out that those shoes are featured on
the Charles Jourdan website in their history section for the 1960's.

How did I miss that?
I was all over that website.
I feel so unworthy of the title of Goddess and even more unworthy to have these truly fabulous shoes at my humble abode for much longer.
